Company visit with a focus on optimization at Elkem Thamshavn

The first activity of the efficiency production competence group this year was a company visit and experience exchange at Elkem Thamshavn on Friday, March 1st. Plant Director Bjørn Saugestad welcomed us and provided the cluster participants with an introduction to how Elkem organizes their morning meetings. We also took a tour of the facility with a focus on visual management. Additionally, we received an introduction to how Elkem Thamshavn works with lean principles at the plant. Norsk Kylling provided an overview of their efforts in streamlining processes and how this would impact their new factory at Furumoen. The session concluded with each participant presenting a case study on how they have implemented digitalization in production. This was a highly valuable session where participants could provide feedback and exchange comments with each other.

Breakfast meeting at Simpro and experience exchange on 5S

On Friday, March 15th, the competence group for efficient production organized a breakfast meeting at Simpro, focusing on the lean methodology of 5S. Simpro has successfully implemented this project multiple times within their organization. CEO Erik Draget provided an introduction to Simpro, while Karin Damli and Svein Ivar Bjørnås explained and shared concrete examples of how Simpro works with 5S. Several participants found the concept intriguing and expressed their interest in implementing it in their own companies. We will provide more information soon so that those interested can join a lean project on the 5S methodology. All Thamsklyngen cluster members are welcome to attend the various activities organized by the competence groups. We will soon launch more activities for registration, and we encourage you to provide input. Competence Group for Efficient Production, Torbjørn Evjen and John Kåre Solem.
